I’m sure I’m not the only one that is experiencing weekly headaches with freight delays and lead time materials.
What was once available down the road, can now be a lengthy delay to get a hold of it. The feedback I am getting from suppliers and contractors is that the worst is not over, and we should be planning to deal with this for the remainder of this year.
For the benefit of suppliers it is always great if contractors/clients are able to advise of product requirements early on, and limit last-minute requirements. This allows suppliers time to procure and deal with international freight delays. It is always appreciated by them if their pipeline is accurate.
Similarly for contractors, it is hugely appreciated if suppliers are able to hold more stock in New Zealand and distributed throughout the country. Ordering from overseas once an order is placed by a contractor will simply not support the industry over a long period.
Specification changes to adapt to material delays are likely to be more common and contractors/specifiers should be considering confirming availability of materials before specifying a particular product. Otherwise hang in there, it will get better.
