What's coming up for Contego.
April 10, 2020
In recent months and through the lock down Contego have been working on several projects with regard to Design & Specification.
This is a great task for us to be doing through the lockdown as it puts our specialist skills and knowledge to good use.
Current & recent projects where we have been providing Design & specification services for Passive Fire Protection
include:
Dunedin City Council Building Asset Passive Fire Guides
Contego have been engaged to prepare individual Passive Fire Guides for each of the DCC’s buildings within its asset portfolio. These guides are specific to each building and collect often decades of historical fire safety design into one easy to digest manual.
- The content is aimed at advising tenants, managers, incumbent contractors and future construction professionals on the intricacies of each building and how to maintain compliance of Passive Fire systems within the building
- This backs up our commitment to working with Building owners for the life of the building – not just today

- Auditing an existing building such as a hospital or a civic building is a task that Contego have great experience in. We understand the historical nature of the buildings, sensitive operating environments.
- Sometimes these audits are prepared solely for long term budget advice for reporting and big picture maintenance budgets so that Passive Fire protection upgrades can be considered long term.
- Contego has developed a good working relationship with SDHB whereby our expertise with regard to Passive Fire protection and Hospitals is valued
Peer Review
Contego has been engaged to provide a peer review service for other contractors around the countryside.
This peer review service is provided as an independent service whereby the client can have confidence in the documentation, systems and installations provided by other contractors are compliant.
This peer review service is provided as an independent service whereby the client can have confidence in the documentation, systems and installations provided by other contractors are compliant.
- This is one way that full compliance evidence can be provided to clients and Building Consent Authorities at code of compliance phase
- Contego complete the peer review as a completely unbiased review with no ultimatum as works are being completed in areas outside of our operating territories.

The Passive Fire Protection Intumescent Coating Code of Practice suggests that this should be a collaborative effort between all design consultants to ensure all aspects are considered. This way of thinking is no different to any other collaborative effort in designing a building whereby multiple consultants need to talk & collaborate on a solution.
South Island passive fire protection contractor Contego today announced that it will continue its business expansion by opening a new base in the North Island in December 2021. Located in New Plymouth, the branch is expected to employ 10 persons over the next 24 months. The business currently employs 35 personnel between its bases across the South Island.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that is experiencing weekly headaches with freight delays and lead time materials. What was once available down the road, can now be a lengthy delay to get a hold of it. The feedback I am getting from suppliers and contractors is that the worst is not over, and we should be planning to deal with this for the remainder of this year.

With the current codes of practice and Passive products annual renewal being worked through the issue of Tested vs Assessed is constantly brought up in conversation. NZBC accepts the use of AS4072.1 Assessments as a way of showing compliance as an equal with a tested solution in accordance with AS1530.4.
